How Diamonds Are Formed

This meditation dives deep underground to reveal how diamonds are made—and how pressure, time, and patience shape us too. It’s a calming journey about self-growth, transformation, and trusting your own quiet brilliance.

  • Feeling the weight of the world? You’re not alone—and you’re not being crushed, you’re being formed.
In this grounding meditation we travel deep beneath the surface to witness how time, heat, and pressure transform ordinary carbon into radiant diamonds. Along the way, we gently explore how our own hard days, big feelings, and slow changes are part of becoming something strong, beautiful, and entirely one-of-a-kind.

    Self Pressure

Hi there, little one. Is the world feeling a bit heavy today? Mello has a quiet little adventure to help ease that weight and soften the pressure.

This episode, our question comes from Cash:

Cash:  “How are diamonds formed in the earth??”

What a brilliant question! Before we begin, did you know the oldest diamonds on Earth are over 3 billion years old? That means they began forming long before the first trees, the first dinosaurs, even before most of the continents were in place.

Let’s start by getting our wiggles out. Go ahead and wiggle.

That’s right–your toes and arms, your fingers and legs. Wiggle them up and down and all around. Now settle those wiggles into a comfortable spot. Take a deep breath in, feeling your body fill with calm.… breathe out, as you exhale whisper to yourself, ‘I am safe.’ Inhale again… and feel love fill your body. Whisper, ‘I am loved.’

With one more deep breath, your imagination is ready. So let’s begin our adventure…

    So sit back, relax…and mello.

Far beneath your feet, over 90 miles beneath Earth’s surface, something remarkable is happening. With a slow, deep breath, imagine traveling below, time unfolding around you…

    (transition underground)

Down here, it’s dark and ancient. And somewhere in this hidden world, something as ordinary as carbon, the same element in pencils, plants, and even people, is slowly transforming.

    Not in seconds.

    Not even in years.

But over millions and sometimes billions of years.

Temperatures rise above 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This makes the carbon atoms move, twist, and stretch, wanting to connect.

Then there is the quiet, constant weight of the world, pushing down on the carbon…like the weight of 100,000 elephants. You and I would be crushed by this amount of weight… it’s exactly what the carbonn needs to transform into something completely new.

With time, the ordinary carbon atoms lock arms in a perfect pattern: strong, tight, and beautiful. More connected than ever. They form crystalline structures, making them the toughest and most beautiful substance in the world…diamonds

But how do those diamonds make their way to the surface?

Take a deep breath here with me. In and out…in and out…with each breath, the diamonds rise with super-fast volcanic eruptions, like secret elevators in the earth!

    (Explosion)

Afterwards, when the eruptions cool down, the diamonds stay hidden in the rock like buried treasure. Let them sparkle in your mind as you…

    Breathe in.
    Breathe out.

The final cut and polish of the diamond is remarkable. They can cut through anything, bend light into rainbows, and delight us with their beauty. Diamonds are even used to make lasers, industrial tools, semiconductors, quantum computers, and even space equipment.

But the most amazing thing about diamonds…is the process it takes to create them.

So…what can we learn from the diamond?

Sometimes the world feels heavy. Like there’s too much going on, or too many things pressing down on you. But instead of falling apart…you can transform. You can grow stronger and brilliant. You can create bonds that can withstand anything.

With care, with time, our mistakes, our big feelings, our changes shape us into something stronger. We stumble, we stretch, we rise. We learn…we grow…even when it is hard. And eventually, we come out the other side sparkling.

Let's take note of your body. With a deep breath feel your chest expand. Each rib pushing outward as your breath fills you up. As you exhale feel your shoulders falling, your back remaining strong. Let’s do this 3 more times.

    Breath in and out

    In and out

    In and out

But the pressure alone doesn’t make the carbon beautiful. Time did. Patience did. In fact, diamonds that rise to the surface too quickly break apart, and turn back into soft graphite.

You are not meant to be complete all at once. You are meant to let it build you slowly.

    Not with panic.
    Not with comparison.
But with trust. Trust in those you love and yourself.

Soften your shoulders now. Feel your feet grounded into the Earth.

    You are not behind.
    You are not late.
You are forming, in your own quiet brilliance.

When you’re ready… you will shine. Not because you rushed. Not because you forced it.
But because you let yourself become exactly who you are meant to be.
