  • What’s it Like Being a Jellyfish?

    Letting go (physically & mentally)

Welcome to mello. I imagine questions and curiosities bubble up into your brilliant mind all day long. So we thought we’d answer them, while taking you on little mindful adventures, giving you time to meditate.

Meditating is like finding a cozy spot in your mind, where you can sit with alllll your thoughts and feelings.  I hope you brought your imagination along, because tonight you’ll need it!

This episode, our question comes from Zelda:

Zelda:  “I was wondering: What’s it like being a jellyfish?”

Oooh, Jellyfish! That’s a great question. Let’s put ourselves in a jellyfish’s shoes, and see if we can learn anything from the way they live!

This is a time for you to just…mello.

Let’s start by getting our wiggles out. Go ahead and wiggle.

That’s right–your toes and arms, your fingers and legs. Wiggle them up and down and all around. Now settle those wiggles into a snuggle.

As you tuck into your cozy blanket, take a deep breath in, feeling your body fill with calm. As you exhale, whisper to yourself, “I am safe”. With your next inhale, feel your body fill with love. You exhale and whisper to yourself,  “I am loved.”

With your last deep breath, your imagination is now ready for our nighttime adventure. So sit back, relax…and mello.

The sounds of a light gentle wave rushing you side to side. There are light calls of seagulls in the distance.

Imagine you're on a raft in the ocean, looking up at a starry sky.

You take a deep breath in, feeling the cool, fresh air fill your lungs. You listen to the gentle waves and feel the sway of thee ocean beneath you, each wave glimmering with starlight.

There are SO many stars. Did you know, there are ten stars for every cup of water in the ocean? How incredible is that? You wish you could explore them all, but they're so far away…

    Sounds of waves.

…what if we could explore the ocean below instead?

Using your imagination, you form a bright blue bubble around yourself. Nothing can harm you here. With a deep breath in, you feel safe and secure in this comfortable little space you’ve created. Now, we’re ready to explore.

Trusting your bubble, you let go, and slowwwly slide into the water.

Light bubbles, underwater sounds start here.

As you sink deeper…and deeper, your body relaxes. As you drift downward, notice how your breath begins to match the rhythmic currents.

Need a rhythmic current that feels like breathing. More sinking.

Take another full breath. In through your nose….and out through your mouth. Beneath you, in the deeeeep darkness, tiny mesmerizing lights draw you closer. You continue to sink, the lights forming shapes you recognize.

    Jellyfish. 🪼

Beautiful, bright jellyfish, floating beneath you.

Your world is now a rich tapestry of blues, pinks, and purples..

You wonder how anything living soooo deep in the ocean could have such vibrant colors. Can I tell you something? Jellyfish create their own light, with bioluminescence.  This makes you smile.

As you grow closer, you feel the gentle pulse of their billowing bodies. Look how the jellyfish stretches out…then squishes its soft body up, pushing itself forward. Let’s take a breath in when it floats up. And breathe out as  it drifts down. In...and out…Up…and down. Feel your body move with your breath, like you’re a jellyfish gliding through the water.

Their slow, rhythmic movements tell you that they’re in no hurry. Feel your own body relax with that same feeling of peace.

Before your eyes Jellyfish as small as jellybeans drift by you, followed by the most enormous jellyfish you could ever imagine. He floats up to you, calm and curious. Beneath him, long pink tentacles dangle in the water like ribbons in a gentle breeze.

His blue skin, called mes - o - glee - a, is see-through. It reminds you of the night sky—it’s like the whole galaxy lives inside of this jellyfish.

As you sway in the vast dark waters together, you feel grateful that this kind creature is lending you his inner light.

You feel a quiet bond. Like he is whispering the secrets of the universe with you.

As you look at him, your mind wanders to a question: What is it like to be a jellyfish?

With a deep breath, you let go of all the worries you have been carrying. You let your arms hang and feel yourself drift. Your body becomes fluid as the water that surrounds you.

YOU are now a jellyfish. 😁

Sounds of ocean and gentle music.

Feel the current of the ocean flow through you. Your whole body is now free of movement. You allow yourself to just…be. Just like the jellyfish that surround you.

    Music and ocean.

Drifting a little, here and there, not worried about where you’ll go.  Because any place you go is the right place to be.

    Music and ocean.

As you take a deep breath in, filling your body with ease and comfort. You see that so many Jellyfish have to drifted into view. Their translucent bodies glowing faintly in the brilliant blue waters. They twist and sway each movement in a delicate dance.

Their presence, playful and serene, it's like they have all come to share this moment with you.

You begin to feel the water at your back………guiding you towards the surface. With a little wave you say goodbye and thank you to the peaceful jellyfish.

You break the threshold, back at the surface.

You gently drift back onto the raft where our journey began. Even though your bubble begins to fade, the feeling of safety never leaves you. Your breath slows, and your body relaxes into the soft wood.

With a last look up at the sky, you think of your time with the jellyfish. Their quiet movements echoing in your mind. With a breath in you feel a gentle stillness wash over you -just like the jellyfish, you too can create your own light, and find peace in just being you.

The moon fades behind your eyelids, covering you in its soft glow as you drift off to sleep.

Music, ocean, waves, slowly petering out…
