How Seeds Grow
How does a tiny seed grow into something tall, green, and full of life? We explore the quiet magic of growth—and discover that we’re blooming, too.
-
In this soothing, sun-dappled adventure, we hold a tiny seed in our hand and imagine all the quiet, powerful magic that helps it grow—roots digging deep, stems reaching tall, and leaves turning sunlight into energy. Along the way, we remember that our hearts are like seeds too: full of possibility, strength, and the patience to bloom in their own time.
This episode is a gentle meditation on how growth takes time, care, and love—from the garden to ourselves.

How do Veggies Grow
Patience
Well hello, and welcome to Mello! Today we’re going to explore something small… but full of possibility. A tiny little thing that knows exactly how to grow into something big and beautiful. That’s right—we’re talking about seeds!
This episode, our question comes from Ivy:
Ivy: “How do veggies and flowers grow from seeds?”
Yes we most definitely can. Also I heard that you love broccoli! Is that true?! I love it too! My son however does not!
Let’s start by getting our wiggles out. Go ahead and wiggle.
That’s right–your toes and arms, your fingers and legs. Wiggle them up and down and all around. Now settle those wiggles into a comfortable spot. Take a deep breath in, feeling your body fill with calm.… breathe out, as you exhale whisper to yourself, ‘I am safe.’ Inhale again… and feel love fill your body. Whisper, ‘I am loved.’
With one more deep breath, your imagination is ready. So let’s begin our adventure…
So sit back, relax…and mello.
I have something very special to give you. Can I have your hand? Ok, go ahead and look. There in your palm is a tiny seed. No bigger than a spec of dirt, so light that you don't even feel its weight.
I know that right now it doesn't look like much. In fact, it might be even hard to imagine that something so tiny can grow into a mighty plant that will bear fruit and vegetables. But it will. Go ahead and plant it into the ground.
A warm rain falls gently from the sky. The cool earth drinks it up.
(gentle rain)
Just a few inches below the surface, your tiny seed begins to wake up.
After waiting for the right conditions (a warm place to grow, sunlight, and just the right amount of water), the seed breaks open.
Tiny roots poke out first, reaching downward into the earth. They soak up all the water and nutrients that little seeds need to grow.
(moving earth sound….I don't know but I can hear it in my mind)
Then, a shoot called a plumule (ploo-myool) pushes upward, carrying within it the first leaves. They break through the soil searching for the sunlight.
The little seedling is fragile and new, but it is growing! As the sun rises in the day, it stretches a little taller, becoming a little stronger.
Every day, you come to tend to your little seed. You tip your watering can (tin sound & trickling water sounds), feeding its roots. Deep underground, they twist and turn, pushing deeper into the earth. Your heart catches as you see its tiny bright green leaves unfurl toward the blue sky.
(pause with sounds of bees and music…. A warm day in the sun)
Nutrients are being pulled all the way from the roots. The rich soil gives the plant all it needs to grow, like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
These nutrients travel all the way up the stem to every leaf and every flower.
Sunlight goes in, and energy comes out. The leaves create sweet sugars that help the plant grow stronger and taller. All by using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide in the air.
This magical process is called photosynthesis. It’s how the plant feeds itself.
AND the more it grows, the more it can do. It all began as the tiny seed in the palm of your hand. Full of possibility, eventual roots, expanding leaves, and blossoms that are bright and colorful, made to attract bees and butterflies.
And after those flowers are pollinated? That’s when the real magic happens. The flowers slowly turn into fruit or vegetables. And inside every fruit, there are more seeds! Just waiting for their own turn to be planted and grown.
(Break)
Imagine for a moment that your heart is this little seed. It feels small right now. Maybe even unsure at times what to do next. Take a moment and feel its beating. Like the tiny seed, you are filled with the power to grow.
To bloom.
So take a deep breath in…
And as you breathe out, say softly to yourself, “I am growing.”
Continue to breathe in and out in this moment, imagining yourself growing taller, warm and safe in the sun.
(pause with sounds of bees and music…. A warm day in the sun)
Let’s end today’s journey by checking in with our bodies—because like the little plant, you are growing every day. Right now! Even as you listen.
Start by bringing your attention to your toes. Wiggle them gently, just like roots finding its way beneath the soil. Feel them grounding you, holding you steady.
Now move your attention up to your legs. Can you feel them? Strong and growing like the stem of a plant, reaching upward.
Let your belly soften. That’s where your energy is being made, just like the leaves making food in the sunlight.
Breathe in… and imagine your belly filling with brightness.
Breathe out… and whisper to yourself, “I am everything I need.”
Move your attention up to your chest and your heart. Can you feel it beating?
Your heart is your flower—open and blooming, ready to give and receive love. Let it shine like the brightest part of your garden. Now to your shoulders. Let them drop. Let go of any heaviness you don’t need to carry.
You are strong. You are supported.Feel your neck, your jaw, your face. Let them all relax. Smile if you want to.
Imagine your whole self bathed in warm sunlight, just like a plant on the sunniest day.Take one more big breath in, letting it fill you from your toes to the top of your head.
Just like your little seed, you are full of possibility. You are patient. You are powerful.
And you are exactly where you need to be.So go on now—carry your sunlight with you.
